Hutto and Brushy Creek
Hutto has its roots in cattle ranching and cotton farming. When the International-Great Northern Railroad came through the region in the 1870s, the company had to purchase land for its depot from a local rancher, James Emory Hutto. Once the railroad depot was established, the makings of a small town soon followed. Just 20 years later, Hutto had a young cotton industry, supported by a bank, hotel, several cotton gins and a population of 700.

In recent years, the community’s central Texas location combined with its small-town feel and relaxed lifestyle has earned increasing appreciation from home buyers and developers. Today, both Hutto and Brushy Creek are redefining themselves as modern, family-oriented communities with much to offer today’s home buyer.

Hutto has the advantage of having its own school district. Small and responsive to the community’s needs, Hutto Independent School District operates four campuses serving about 2,000 students. The student-to-teacher ratio for all four schools combined—the primary, elementary, middle and high schools—was last measured at 14:4.

The climate of Hutto and Brushy Creek is warm and mild. Temperatures range from highs nearing 100 degrees Fahrenheit in August to lows in the mid-30s in December and January. Average annual rainfall is relatively low at about 35 inches. May sees the most rain of any month, about five inches, while July is typically the driest month of the year.
